Electric Cars - Which one is right for you?

Benefits of Electric cars

Not only are electric cars eco-friendlier, but there are other advantages as well.

  • Lower Fuel Costs
  • Simpler Maintenance
  • Happier Drivers
  • Easier to Achieve Sustainability Targets

Although electric vehicles may cost more upfront, over the lifespan of the vehicle, an EV could actually save you money in addition to being better for the environment.

Battery prices are becoming more affordable, the driving range is increasing, and fuel and maintenance costs are lower. In addition, in many countries, there are government incentives that bring down the cost even further.

Electric Vehicles 101

There are three main kinds of electric vehicles: battery-electric (BEVs or EVs), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEVs), and hybrid electric (HEVs).

Battery electric vehicles, or BEVs, use electricity stored in a battery pack to power an electric motor and turn the wheels. When depleted, the batteries are recharged using grid electricity, either from a wall socket or a dedicated charging unit.

Audi e-tron is an example of a Battery electric vehicle (BEV)

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) use batteries to power an electric motor and another fuel, such as gasoline, to power an internal combustion engine (ICE).  The vehicle typically runs on electric power until the battery is nearly depleted, and then the car automatically switches over to use the internal combustion engine (ICE).

Ford Escape, a Plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV)

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are powered by an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, which uses energy stored in batteries. A hybrid electric vehicle cannot be plugged in to charge the battery. Instead, the battery is charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine.

Both BEVs and PHEVs need to be charged at charging stations. HEVs use their onboard electric motor as a supplement to their internal combustion engine (ICE), and are charged via regenerative braking.

The EcoRide Program

ExpatRide’s initiative to reduce carbon emissions for our clients

The following are all major culprits to global pollution during a move: Moving trucks – Cargo ships – Air travel – Car service

We want to help our clients reduce the climate impact of their car services via three purpose-driven EcoRide initiatives:

  1. Vetting of our Global Supplier Network
  2. Motivating, Assisting, and Pushing greener choices
  3. The “EcoRide Choice” Program

Mandated by the client, EcoRide is designed always to choose the eco-friendlier option on behalf of international assignees worldwide.

It’s easy to make a difference! Switching just 50 assignees from gasoline to hybrid rental cars on an annual basis makes a significant impact

EcoRide Choice Program

We work with corporations and relocation companies within an agreed greener framework. The choices are made across six continents, 175 countries, and all our services.

Choices worldwide:

  • Airport Transfer all major airports
  • Car Rental worldwide
  • Car Leasing in 58 countries
  • Chauffeur Service worldwide
  • Armored Vehicles and security service

The EcoRide Choice Program

Mandated by the client, EcoRide Choice is designed to always choose the
eco-friendlier option on behalf of the employee.

  • We work with corporations and relocation companies within an agreed greener framework. The choices are made across six continents and all our services.
  • The program can lower the client’s CO2 emissions by between 30% (hybrid) and 80% (electric) when an eco-friendlier option is possible.

Fact: Switching a one-month car rental to a hybrid saves 11 trees

In praxis:

  • When possible, we will always pick eco-friendlier cars (within the agreed framework)
  • For rental cars and chauffeur service, if there are no eco-friendly options available at the start of service, we will switch to a greener vehicle when possible

Why EcoRide?

Cars emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming and pollution.

Many of our clients and their employees are concerned about the environment and pollution. As a result, they seek ways to lower their CO2 emissions when relocating employees.

Therefore, we have taken the initiative to reduce our services’ carbon footprint while driving demand for greener cars in our suppliers’ fleets Worldwide.

We do this by actively Motivating, Assisting, and Pushing greener transportation options.

Implementing the EcoRide Program

Setting up the program: We work closely with our clients and partners on establishing the EcoRide program for all aspects of greener car transportation. Aligning customary transportation across continents, budgets, allowances, self-pay, approved vehicles, individually tailored solutions, and centralized direct billing arrangement across all services.

Delivering service: We can offer our corporate clients Adhoc service as needed or work closely together to create a global EcoRide Transportation Plan. A plan which will take all needs, variables, budgets, and local requirements/restrictions into consideration. A plan will provide your company with a uniform approach, a One-Point-of-Contact service, and lower your international assignees’ CO2 footprint.
